Abstract
Background. Knowing and respecting the rights of patients by doctors is very important to improve the quality of care and increase the trust and satisfaction of patients. For this reason, it is necessary for doctors to know these rights. In this research, doctors' awareness of the bill of rights of patients in teaching hospitals of Khorram Abad city, Lorestan has been investigated.
Methods. In this cross-sectional descriptive analytical study, the statistical population was made up of doctors working in teaching hospitals in Khorramabad city in 2019. A sample of 145 people was determined using the available method. In order to collect data, a questionnaire whose validity was previously measured by the form method and its content and reliability by the retest method was used. Data analysis was done with tests of Kolmogorov-Smirnov, independent t, Anova, and Pearson correlation, and SPSS software version 24.
Results. The total awareness score of the bill of patient rights among the doctors was calculated as 95.44 ± 5.85. The level of awareness of 93.1% of excellent doctors, 5.5% was good and 1.4% was average. There was no significant relationship between the age, gender and source of knowledge of doctors and their level of awareness of the patient's bill of rights. With increasing work experience and higher level of education, the level of awareness of the bill of rights of the patient increased. The knowledge of psychiatrists was at the highest level (100) and the knowledge of general doctors was at the lowest level (92.83 ± 6.8).
Conclusion. The findings showed that the awareness of doctors about patient's rights was at a high level. This high awareness of doctors is due to the correct training of medical ethics, and patient's bill of rights to doctors in recent years, so it seems necessary to continue and strengthen it. The results can be used as a benchmark for decision-makers and planners in the field of health, treatment and medical education in order to train doctors and treatment staff and lay the groundwork for the implementation of the patient rights charter and increase the satisfaction and health of patients.
Practical Implications. This study helps to identify and solve the challenges of this field by providing an image of the physicians' awareness of the patient's charter of rights in university hospitals, and the effort to satisfy the patients improves the quality of health care.
