Abstract
Background. Religious beliefs are effective in human health and especially in the mental health. Practicing religious beliefs is one of the manifestations of religiosity. Self-esteem is also one of the important content of personality. The present study was conducted in order to investigate the role of practicing religious beliefs and self-esteem in prediction of mental health of the students in Tabriz Sadeghieh religious school.
Methods. It is a correlational descriptive method. The statistical population is all female students of Tabriz Sadeghieh religious school, numbering 205 people. The sample size is 100 people and a random table of numbers was used for sampling. The research tools included the self-measurement scales of practical commitment to Islamic beliefs of Navidi (reliability 0.81), Cooper Smith's self-esteem (reliability 0.86) and Goldberg's general health (reliability 0.89). Pearson's correlation coefficient tests and simultaneous regression analysis were used to analyze the data.
Results. The results showed that practicing religious beliefs, family and general self-esteem can predict the students’ mental health.
Conclusion. It was suggested to perform religious behaviors and strengthen family and public self-esteem in order to improve people’s mental health.
